The main duties of the Nurse Associate include, but are not limited to:
Clinical Responsibilities:
Phlebotomy and Monitoring:
Perform blood tests, health checks, and routine monitoring.
Immunisations:
Administer immunisations as part of the NHS vaccination programme, including baby immunisations.
Chronic Disease Management:
Support the clinical team in managing chronic diseases by undertaking monitoring and follow-up care in line with care plans.
Wound Care:
Provide wound care and dressing services, ensuring high standards of patient care.
Cervical Cytology:
Conduct cervical cytology (smear tests) if trained and qualified.
Patient Assistance:
Chaperone and assist patients during procedures as needed, ensuring their dignity and comfort.
Health Promotion:
Provide education and advice to patients on health promotion, disease prevention, and self-management strategies.
Administrative Responsibilities:
Stock Management:
Monitor and maintain pcn stock, ensuring adequate supplies of medical equipment and consumables.
Data and Reporting:
Participate in practice Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF), and Directed Enhanced Services (DES) requirements.
Record Keeping:
Maintain accurate, timely, and complete documentation in line with professional standards and practice policies.
Professional Responsibilities:
Training and Development:
Maintain professional registration with the NMC and engage in ongoing professional development.
Participate in training, including mandatory updates and practice-specific training.
Collaboration:
Work collaboratively with the clinical and non-clinical team to deliver patient-centered care.
Participate in team meetings and contribute to service improvement initiatives.
Compliance:
Adhere to the practices clinical governance framework, including infection prevention, safeguarding, and health and safety policies.
Conducting clinical / non-clinical audit work.
Person Specification
Experience
Essential
- Experience of working within general practice
- Experience working within a nursing team
- Experience in partaking in reflective practice
- Experience managing routine and unpredictable workload
- Experience working within EMIS
Desirable
- A desire to expand existing skill set and continued professional development
Qualifications
Essential
- Nursing Associate qualification and active registration with the NMC.
- Competence in phlebotomy, immunisation administration, and wound care.
- Understanding of chronic disease management.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Proactive and adaptable approach to meeting patient needs.
- Experience in cervical cytology (smear tests).
Desirable
- Knowledge of QOF, DES, and other primary care requirements.
